In 2001, Dr. Shamma invented a revolutionary method to eliminate protruding, lumpy veins of the hands and forearms. Through his ongoing work at clinics in Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Holland and, soon Qatar, Dr Shamma has helped many women seeking to eliminate unwanted veins to regain the beauty and youthfulness of their hands . His simple, in-office laser-based procedure has been adopted by the majority of centers around the world since its introduction in April 2001, and his work has been published in the prestigious Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Shamma’s new treatment involves the use of laser optics to treat venous abnormalities and smooth the bulges using a laser fiber that lets deeper veins take over. It is a simple, incision-less procedure that is performed in-office with local anesthesia and, according to Shamma, yields excellent and safe results. There is no down time after the procedure and the patient can resume her normal activities. The network of veins on the back of the hand is covered by a layer of fat and generally thick non-transparent skin, making these veins largely invisible. Genetic factors, loss of fat around the veins, thinning and aging of the skin, exposure to the sun and health problems are all factors that make hand and forearm veins more pronounced, lumpy-looking and dark. Traditional procedures have involved the injection of solutions (sclerotherapy) and fillers, or vein removal (phlebectomy). Shamma does not recommend sclerotherapy for hand veins due to poorer results and higher complication rates, while phlebectomy requires the use of incisions, he says. With a practice home based in Lebanon (www.sovein.net), Asad R. Shamma, MD is a board-certified Vascular Surgeon and has been awarded the certificate of added qualifications in Vascular Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the Society for Vascular Surgery; the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery; the American College of Phlebology; Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society; and the American Venous Forum. Shamma’s pioneering vein treatments will now be available at the Royal Medical Centre in Qatar, while continuing to provide same in Dubai ( Al Rustom Medical and one Day Surgery Center), Beirut, Madrid, Marbella and Landgraaf. 01.Interview on Dubai TV's medical program 'VITAMIN with Dr. Ali Singl' part 1 02.Interview on Dubai TV's medical program 'VITAMIN with Dr. Ali Singl' part 2 03.Interview on Dubai TV's medical program 'VITAMIN with Dr. Ali Singl' part 3 04.Interview on Dubai TV's medical program 'VITAMIN with Dr. Ali Singl' part 4 |
